As HDI boards with high frequency, high-speed boards, and rigid-flex boards that are specialized PCBs appear, the electronic products are increasingly lighter, thinner, more compact, and multifunctional. Thus, the manufacturing processes of PCBs nowadays are more advanced and complicated, and the traditional quality control can no longer meet the rigorous demands of the contemporary PCB industry chain.

High-end PCB manufacturing involves a long and intricate process chain, covering dozens of steps including photolithography, electroplating, etching, and lamination. In such an interconnected system, even the slightest deviation can result in product defects.

Based on years of hands-on experience, the expert team at FS Circuits has established that a high-end PCB quality control system should follow the principles of being “process-wide, multi-dimensional, and data-driven.” For the past 18 years, we have consistently adhered to and continuously improved this quality control system. Our efforts have earned widespread recognition from clients around the world, including many Fortune 500 companies. We also warmly welcome you to visit our factory at any time.

FS Circuits' Manufacturing ProcessTrusted PCB & PCBA Fabrication

FS Circuits believes that quality control is more reflected in the details of lean management and strict control. FS Circuits provides quality control throughout the manufacturing process. Unlike most Electronic Manufacturing Service providers, we pay special attention to several core processes that are easily overlooked by them, and use a “key process quality control mechanism” to do this. These processes in the whole manufacturing process are, in fact, very subtle, but if not well controlled, will often make the efforts of other links fall short.

Comprehensive PCB Inspection & Testing Methods for Quality Verification for Superior Quality Control

Multi-stage inspection and final product testing during production are key steps to ensuring quality. In the quality control system at Fs Circuits, every single PCB must undergo rigorous testing and inspection. This includes not only electrical and visual checks but also functional tests and environmental stress screening, ensuring the reliability and durability of PCBs under various conditions.

In-line PCB Inspection Technologies

Automated Optical Inspection (AOI):

Automated Optical Inspection

FS Circuits is equipped with advanced AOI systems. AOI is an optical imaging and image processing technology-based computer-aided inspection process. AOI makes effective use of high-resolution images and image analysis software to detect issues such as breaks in the circuit, defects in pads, faulty component placement, and surface flaws. AOI is quick and precise and thus ideal for high-volume production facilities.

X-ray Inspection:

3D X Ray inspection

X-ray technology can penetrate the PCB surface to bring out inner structures so that hidden defects can be detected accurately. It is of great use on high-density and high-precision PCBs where there are many critical internal issues that cannot be seen by the naked eye. Although X-ray inspection is relatively slow and requires experienced workers, in actual operation it is often used along with other methods like AOI and SEM to enhance detection coverage.

PCB Electrical Testing

Flying Probe Test:

Flying Probe Test

This method uses programmable flying probes as high-speed programmable test probes to probe the surface of the PCB for opens, shorts, and circuit continuity. It can also measure component values (resistance, capacitance, diode characteristics) and connectivity when it touches test points. As a non-contacting test method with no special fixtures required and possibility of reuse of probes, this method is most suitable for the rapid testing of small lots or complex circuits.

Functional Test (FCT):

FCT

Functional electrical testing is conducted according to the unique needs of the product. Through the use of specialized test fixtures, the PCB is mounted on test equipment, which simulates the actual operating condition and tests the overall circuit function. The equipment controls input and output signals, analyzes signal processing, power output, communication interfaces, etc. This is a test-by-contact method and typically requires special test fixtures according to customer requirements, thus rendering it suitable for end-of-line check of intricate functions and after-production batch tests.

PCB Reliability Test

Thermal Shock and Temperature Testing:

Thermal Shock and Temperature Testing

This test is used to measure the thermal stress resistance of pads and vias. It rapidly cycles the temperature (usually between -40°C and 125°C) to simulate applications in harsh thermal environments. The aim is to identify defects like material CTE mismatch, delamination, or cracking.

Damp Heat Test:

Damp Heat Test

This test simulates the operation of PCBs in high-temperature, high-humidity environments. Under test conditions such as 85°C/85% RH, it simulates tropical rainforest or ocean climates, and tests corrosion resistance, insulation performance, and long-term reliability largely.

PCB Assembly Quality StandardsMeeting Global Requirements

Quality Control System Framework

FS Circuits has developed a comprehensive quality management system based on ISO 9001 and IPC standards. This system enables us to cover the entire production process—from raw material intake to final product delivery—ensuring comprehensive quality control at every stage.

In actual production, we typically adopt the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle, breaking down quality management into three levels: preventive control, process control, and final inspection.

Design Stage Quality ControlDFM & Manufacturing Review for High-Performance PCBs

DFM (Design for Manufacturing) analysis during the early design stage effectively prevents manufacturing issues down the line, which is especially critical in the production of High-Density Interconnect boards and high-frequency/high-speed circuit boards. At this stage, we take into account the capabilities of the manufacturing process, such as minimum trace width/spacing, minimum via diameter, and board thickness tolerances. We also ensure that test point designs are reasonable and suitable for subsequent ICT or flying probe testing.

Our expert team uses professional PCB design tools—such as Altium Designer and Cadence Allegro—to review and optimize your circuit design, ensuring consistency between design symbols, schematics, and actual functionality. Comprehensive Signal Integrity (SI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) analyzes are performed to reduce signal interference and crosstalk. Based on the customer’s specific product requirements, we carefully select a suitable multilayer stack-up and optimize the power and ground layer layout to avoid current loop interference.

Raw Materials Quality ControlIQC Standards & Supplier Management

IQC inspection process flow chart
FS Circuits IQC Inspection Process

In manufacturing, over 50% of quality issues during trial production and over 60% during mass production stem from incoming material problems. This highlights the critical impact that raw material quality has on overall product quality.

At FS Circuits, we conduct rigorous IQC procedures before production begins. Through sampling inspections, we evaluate the appearance, functionality, dimensions, and packaging of incoming raw materials and components. We adhere to AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit) standards and strictly control incoming material quality based on inspection results, production requirements, and customer expectations.

Our expert team carefully analyzes the customer’s actual application needs to select the most suitable raw materials. To ensure material consistency and reliability, we have established a supplier rating system and material batch traceability mechanism. We also verify the qualifications of material suppliers and require material certifications such as UL certification.

Management and Continuous Improvement

Quality Management System (QMS)

We have adopted the ISO 9001 Quality Management System to standardize our full-cycle management from raw material procurement to final product delivery. This includes standardized process design, document control, and customer satisfaction tracking to ensure that our products meet both industry standards and customer-specific requirements.

FS Circuits also implements Total Quality Management (TQM), focusing on full employee involvement. By integrating the PDCA cycle with Six Sigma tools, we continuously optimize production parameters such as etching precision and plating uniformity. Cross-department collaboration is encouraged to resolve potential risks such as design flaws and process instability, ultimately reducing defect rates and customer complaints.

Supply Chain Management

Over the years, FS Circuits has built an extensive global supplier network across Taiwan, South Korea, and other regions in Asia. We have the ability to source rare, obsolete, or long lead-time components. Our expert team dynamically allocates manpower based on order volumes to ensure on-time delivery—with samples delivered within 1–2 weeks and key components sourced directly to eliminate delays caused by intermediaries.

We carefully vet and establish long-term partnerships with suppliers. Regular assessments of raw material quality and delivery performance help us continuously optimize the supply chain.

PCB Quality Control Training & Technical Ppgrade

FS Circuits conduct regular IPC-A-610-A training sessions to improve craftsmanship and ensure manufacturing quality. At FS Circuits, service and quality are core pillars of our growth. Throughout the production process, engineers, quality control staff, and account managers oversee and guide operations to ensure first-pass yield rates.

At the same time, we continuously invest in advanced automation equipment, such as Sony SI-F130WK pick-and-place machines, Heller 10-zone reflow ovens from the U.S., and precision X-ray fluorescence thickness testers from Japan. This minimizes human error. After more than a decade of continuous refinement starting with raw materials, our lean, high-precision PCBA quality control system has achieved a product pass rate of up to 99%.
